Mark Wahlberg Heads to 'Reykjavik-Rotterdam' Remake

Set up at Working Title, the remake project of director Oskar Jonasson's 2008 Icelandic thriller is eyed to be potential star vehicle for the star of 'Max Payne'.

A remake to 2008's Icelandic film "Reykjavik-Rotterdam" is likely to be Mark Wahlberg's next feature project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 38-year-old who started his career as a rap artist has come on board this untitled Reykjavik-Rotterdam remake to take on the starring role.

The actor who will be seen as Jack Salmon in the upcoming drama "The Lovely Bones" is also attached to produce along with Leverage's Stephen Levinson and Working Title partners Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. The project won't be his first collaboration with Levinson as the two have teamed up as executive producers of "Entourage".

Set up at Working Title, this remake movie has Aaron Guzikowski, the scribe of "Prisoners", to pen the script. Baltasar Kormakur, who produced and starred in the original film, is attached to direct. Liza Chasin and Evan Hayes will be exec producers. No production schedule or release date has been announced just yet.

"Reykjavik-Rotterdam" itself tells the story of a security guard who was an alcohol smuggler on the Iceland-Netherlands route. After encountering financial problems, he is tempted back into the illegal business by a dubious friend. This thriller has been submitted as Iceland contender for the Best Foreign Language Movie for 2010 Oscars.
