The new face of Jack Ryan could be found in the form of Chris Pine. According to Variety, the actor who takes on the role of James T. Kirk in 2008's "Star Trek" has begun negotiations with Paramount Pictures for an opportunity to topline the reboot of the franchise which is based on the Tom Clancy novels. On late Tuesday, October 13, the studio has confirmed the report. The statement from Paramount Film Group president Adam Goodman read, "Tom Clancy created an unforgettable character with Jack Ryan. With Chris in this role, we've taken our first step in creating a re-boot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise."
Should the deal is settled, the 29-year-old will add his name to the list of actors having portrayed the heroic character. Alec Baldwin had played Ryan in "Red October", Harrison Ford starred in "Patriot Games" and "Clear and Present Danger", and Ben Affleck was the last to take on the character in "The Sum of All Fears".
The deal will also attach Pine to two Paramount feature projects since he is already expected to reprise his starring role for "Star Trek 2". It is still unclear, though, whether he will make the "Star Trek" sequel before this untitled Jack Ryan project or not.
The new Jack Ryan movie is still in the early stages of development. On the matter, Variety reported that "Paramount and producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld are working with a script draft by Hossein Amini, based on an original concept." No director is attached just yet.
Chris Pine is filming Tony Scott's thriller "Unstoppable", in which he stars opposite Denzel Washington and Rosario Dawson. The actor who shared screen with Anne Hathaway in "Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement" is also in talks for Paramount's other project, "The Art of Making Money".
